Monday 1/24/2005

We departed the Monday morning with it still a bit windy and pretty cold - 27 degrees in the cockpit at 7 am. Bundled up tight and headed south. Crossed into Georgia in mid-morning and then wound our way down the Wilmington river past Thunderbolt and up the Skidaway to Isle of Hope where we stopped for fuel and to see my friend's ~new baby boy for a few minutes before heading out again. Warmed up during the day to about 50 by mid-afternoon.

The back range marker through Hell's Gate was totally destroyed, but fortunately we didnt need it. We went through at dead low tide with almost no wind or swell and it was dead calm - nicest conditions i've ever seen there. We turned off the ICW at Kilkenny Creek about 5 pm since it's about the the last marina north of Brunswick. Ordered BBQ and a chicken salad from Big Pete's Pizzaria. I dunno about Pete's Pizza, but his BBQ will stack up beside anyone's. Definitely get some if you pass through. Very poor cell reception here. Unfortunately the showers were broken due to the previous night's freeze (18 degrees).
